Fantastic Four Vol.1 #2

The Skrulls, I don't know too much about them, but I have heard of them, The Kree and The Skrulls I believe are or were at war.

Copilot - What is the first appearance of The Skrulls?

The Skrulls made their first appearance in Marvel Comics in Fantastic Four #2, which was published in January 1962. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Skrulls are a race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters who have become significant characters in the Marvel Universe.

Okay first appearance is this issue.

The story opens with The Thing in the open waters of Texas and is seen destroying an oil rig.

Kinda strange...

Susan Storm is shopping in a high end jewelry store admiring a 10 million dollar diamond and as The Invisible Girl, walks off with it.

Now, The Thing's action might have been some other motive, but The Invisible Girl's action seems to be pure theft.

In the Midwest during the dedication event of a priceless marble monument, The Human Torch is seen melting it to a shapeless blob as he laughs and flies away.

Okay, something is going on here.

In the last criminal event, it is the long stretched arm of Mr. Fantastic is seen switching off all the power to the city, leaving them it total darkness.

So the second book in the series, would have us believe that the Fantastic Four have turned to a life of crime.

There are four imposters with the combined help of nature abilities and technological devices, performed these acts of crime to implicate the Fantastic Four. But what is their reason for their actions? The imposters are The Skrull. They believe that they are the only threat that could stop their invasion of Earth.
By turning the public against The Fantastic Four, they will be hunted down and apprehended eliminating their presence in order to proceed with their invasion.

As The Fantastic Four hide themselves away to plan a strategy to whoever is responsible for the recent impersonation, The Thing becomes enraged at the thought of his current physical appearance and the association that the public has made calling them monsters. They all think eventually, Ben will become too enraged to be controlled.

The continuation of Ben's frustration with his appearance and that he feels Reed Richards is responsible for it is shown again. Reed does feel responsible, for all of their changed lives.

Part 2

It seems that the US Army has been sent and have found the location of The Fantastic Four and have them surrounded. Instead of fight, The Fantastic Four surrender in order to keep the peace. They are rushed to a federal prison where each one is place in a specialized cell to counter their special attributes. Each one plans a way to escape their cell.

Now wait a second, instead of fleeing they wait to get capture only to have to escape. Seems a bit foolish.

The Invisible Girl's cell does not appear to have any special attributes.
The Human Torch's cell is lined with asbestos.
The Thing's cell is made with Battleship thick steel.
Mr. Fantastic's cell is an empty cube.

Each member of the Fantastic Four is able to find a way out of their specialized cells.
The Invisible Girl just waits for lunch and goes right by, as she is invisible.
The Thing easily destroys his cell.
The Human Torch burns right out of his.
Mr. Fantastic finds a loose rivet and is able to contort his body through the rivet hole.

The Fantastic Four steal a helicopter and make their way to one of the hidden hideouts. Once at their hideout, they decide the best way to find the imposters. The Human Torch takes it upon himself at the best candidates to determine the next plan of action. The Thing disagrees with The Human Torch's  self appointed decision.

The Human Torch sees an article in the newspaper about a new rocket that will be tested. He thinks if perhaps they were to sabotage the test, it may draw out the imposters. The Human Torch states he will head there right away. The Thing angrily questions The Human Torch's role i the plan. The two start to argue.

This is the start of both the playful banter and the clash of egos between The Human Torch and The Thing.

The Thing gets discouraged and feels very sorrowful and wished he was destroyed. The Human Torch dials it back and apologizes. The Human Torch explains that it would be dangerous whoever attempts the interference might be attacked. THe agreement is made to send The Human Torch and he will signal them when he has infiltrated the launch site.

moments later The Human Torch arrives at the launch site and damages many structures  but makes sure no one is harmed. The guards do everything they can to stop The Human Torch. Suddenly Susan Storm and Reed Richards pull up in a car and yell for The Human Torch to get it quickly. Since The Human Torch did not signal for the other to join him, he knows his plan has worked and these are the imposters. The occupied car heads for the alien Headquarters.

When they get there, they realize they have just brought the REAL Human Torch to their headquarters, and try to subdue him. The Human Torch takes out a signal flare gun and fires it into the air. One of the Skrulls transform into The Human Torch and takes out the REAL Human Torch. He is told he will never leave alive, and another of The Skrull aims a gun at The Human Torch.

At that moment, The Thing bashes through the wall. As the gun starts to fire, Mr. Fantastic takes the gun away the nick of time. One of the Skrulls runs to warn the other Skrull that the Fantastic Four are among them. As he runs by, he trips and falls to the floow, as The Invisible Girls, outstretched leg caused his loss of motion.

Mr. Fantastic now holding the gun, tells the Skrull to stay put or it will be at their loss. Mr. Fantastic demands to know their entire plan. They refuse. The Thing grows impatient with their denial and threatens to beat their plans out of them. The other try to hold The Thing back, and are having a hard time doing it. Seeing this, The Skrulls gives up and do not wished to be harmed.

Now I don't know if this was an act or if The Thing was really gonna clobber them, either way it worked.

The Skrulls tell them that they were to get of The Fantastic Four because they knew it would be the only thing to stop their invasion of Earth, and when The Fantastic Four were out of the way, the invasion could begin, and that they lay in way orbiting the Earth for that next command.

The Fantastic Four need to come up with a plan to put an end to the invasion. They plan to Masquerade as The Skeee and report back to the Skull Invasion task force. The Skulls show The Fantastic Four the location of one of their hidden ships, and The Fantastic Four head towards the Skrull mothership.
The REAL Fantastic Four make their way inside the chambers of the Skrull leader, who asks them if the invasion can begin. He is told, NO, they are way to powerful and cannot be stopped, and the Earth's  defenses are far superior than expected. The Leader says, that this cannot be and demands proof. He is handed an envelope and told, this is what awaits The Skrull if they decide to invade.

Mr. Fantastic, disguised as a Skrull put in clippings from a comic book, with hideous creatures and defense towers.

The Skrull leader says we must leave at once before we are discovered, and tells The Real Fantastic Four, to quickly unmask and join our efforts to leave. NO... we must stay and rid the Earth of any evidence of our presence or we may be hunted down. We will sacrifice our lives for the sake of our existence. They are awarded the highest medal of bravery for their majestic deed.

As the Skrulls leave the Earth atmosphere, The Fantastic Four have done it, Earth is saved. They make their way home in the ship taken from the Skrulls, and they must pass through the cosmic radiation once again. The Thing is enraged, this is the very radiation that transformed him into the grotesque figure of a man that he is today. As they go through, The Thing gets very weak, and can feel a change happening to him.

As the now motionless ship floats in the ocean, it is hits with blaring blinding spot lights. They are surrounded by the military and apprehended. Mr. Fantastic pleads with the arresting Chief for a chance to explain. The Thing speaks out, You can't hold us, I can smash every single one of ya, I am The Thing. But once was the body of The Thing, it is now Ben Grimm, in human flesh.

This is the first instance that the effects of the Cosmic rays may be temporary or cured.

Ben is handed a small mirror from The Invisible Girl, He see his human form and is elated.

But no sooner that he has moments rejoice, he reverts back to The Thing right before the Chief's eyes. The Chief doesn't know what to make of all this, and Mr. Fantastic pleads his case to be returned to his apartment for further proof, who eventually agrees.

When the door is opened The Skrulls inside take monstrous forms and try to escape. The Skrulls are once again captured and Mr. Fantastic tell the chief that can also change their appearance to look like anything or anyone. The chief is satisfied with Mr. Fantastic's demonstration and clears the Fantastic Four of all charges.

But what to do with the Skrulls, they would eventually escape any man-made prison. Mr. Fantastic tell the chief, leave the solution to me, and the Skrulls are released to The Fantastic Four to be dealt with. The Skrulls do not wish to die, and Mr. Fantastic tell them the will not be harmed and will live in a peaceful existence if they obey his demands. They agree, The Skulls are told take a form of a picture Mr. Fantastic shows them, they agree and do so.

This part I edited/added because it made more sense to me. If he hypnotized them first they would have the brain power to transform.

So ends the story of The Skrulls.
